Bottlenose dolphin in the
Gulf of Mexico rarely travel over 10 miles
their entire
life. That means when you see dolphin in the water they
have been in that area for many years and will remain
there for many more.Our pod varies between 19 and 30
dolphin with 2-3 calves each year.
Their dorsal fins
(on their backs!) are completely unique and by
paying close attention to notches and shapes, each
dolphin
can be positively identified. We have over half of them
named and know some of the mothers and babies.
As we travel we will usually talk about various
dolphin individuals and you might even thrill to see a dolphin you
remember next year when you return.
